General remarks:  Dr. Georgia Vullinghs, conservator van the National Museums of Scotland, schrijft op 17-12-2024 in een e-mail het volgende: "The misericords from Elgin are H.KL 128 – 130. I will update the records to show more descriptive detail online. H.KL 128 depicts the apes 307 mm H x 605 mm W x 110 mm D H.KL 129 depicts the Wyvern 270 mm H x 620 mm W x 80 mm D H.KL 130 depicts the angel 290 mm H x 515 mm W x 95 mm D These were purchased by the museum in 1939, from a sale at Gordon Castle. In our records, since time of purchase, previous curators have not been willing to name them as specifically coming from Elgin. It is possible they were at Gordon Castle with this association but never clearly proven. Unfortunately, I can’t locate a sales catalogue to find out more. Alternatively, this could be Remnant’s own research. In which case it is disappointing there is not more detail in the catalogue! We have them named more vaguely as ‘from the North East of Scotland’. These are the only three parts associated with the Elgin stalls in our collection. It has been a ruin for some time but I couldn’t say when this decorative part might have been removed from the church. You might check with Aberdeen City museum, Aberdeen University museum, Elgin local council museum service, and The Scottish Catholic Heritage Collections Trust to see whether they have parts of the stall in their collections. Any private collections connected to the Dukes of Gordon may also be a place to search. I cannot apply extensive research to the matter, but I will continue to seek some leads. Your own research may be able to reveal more about the provenance history of these pieces." Een van de drie losse misericordes in het Museum die volgens Remnant afkomstig zijn uit de Elgin Cathedral.
